Frank Godwin was the winner of the annual best-looking moustache competition at the Eagle pub in 1974. Pictured with his wife Evelyn, he told fellow competitors: “I don’t like my moustache and it’s coming off when I get home.”

Rodney Adams, left, and Brian Radband, in the second picture, were the winners of the village’s annual Great Shirt Race in 1969. Teams of two dressed in nightwear and, pushing all sorts of contraptions, battled it out on village streets in pouring rain, stopping for a glass of ale at pubs along the way.

Women who helped run pubs in the Bampton area attended a bangers and mash party in 1970. The organising committee is seen in the third picture – left to right, Mrs D Butcher, Mrs D Harboard, Mrs J Leaming, Mrs F Bird, Mrs N Scaysbrook and Mrs S Jefferies.
