Sir – I am aware of the issues between some cyclists and some motorists in Oxfordshire. There is also the problem of pedestrians.
On many occasions, while waiting for a bus in High Street, I have seen pedestrians cheerfully walk off the pavement without stopping or looking. If a bus driver sounds his horn at them, their immediate reaction is to glare at the ‘offending’ driver as though he were to blame and then they giggle (‘how amusing: I nearly caused an accident and injury to myself and others’).
The offence of jaywalking is just as dangerous as that of reckless driving, but if the jaywalker were knocked down and injured, I would be prepared to bet next week’s wages on who would be blamed for the accident.
Please will somebody enforce the rules of the road and the pavement and prevent serious injury, or death.
David Calder, Botley
