Sir – Further to your article (Villagers marched in protest at plans for 1,000 homes, January 26), we would, as promoters of the Carterton East option, request that you publish this letter to clarify the situation. There is no question of threatening the identity of Brize Norton by placing 1,000 new homes on the land off Norton Way.

Our proposal, put to a meeting of a workshop attended by members of the district council from across the district on Friday, January 20, was that the scale of development should be limited to circa 700 new homes.

Our partners, Christ Church, have offered 45.21 acres of open space on a 150-year lease to Brize Norton Parish Council to act as a long-term buffer to protect the separate identity of the village.

There will be other benefits to Brize Norton, including a possible extension of Monahan Way to Witney Road, traffic calming in the village, an additional football pitch on land adjoining the existing village recreation ground and improvements to Elderbank Hall.

Another benefit will be funding for Phase Two of the Carterton Leisure Centre, which we understand is used by many Brize Norton residents. There will be further benefits within Carterton.

Bloor Homes and Christ Church are not only extremely committed to delivering a high-quality and sustainable new development at Carterton East but also improving facilities for those living in nearby communities.
