Plans to extend late-night drinking at a bar in Park End Street, Oxford, have met opposition. Thirst Bar wants to extend its opening hours from 2am to 2.30am from Sundays to Wednesdays. The bar is currently open until 3am Thursdays to Saturdays.
City councillor Susanna Pressel, right, said: “I represent the residents that live in the area and they often tell me that they are woken up in the early hours of the morning by drunk people coming out of the clubs. Any extension is something the residents feel strongly about.”
The bar is within Oxford City Council’s special saturation area, which means any new premises licences, club premises certificates or variations to them will normally be refused.
Thirst bar owner Rob Opher: “A vibrant night time economy is vital for Oxford.”
A decision will be made next Thursday.
