A FATHER and his two daughters are limbering up to get ready to run this year's Oxford Town and Gown.

Nick Barwick, 40, a teacher at West Oxford Primary School, and younger daughter Charlotte, 10, are both members of Abingdon Athletics Club and run together every week.

When Mr Barwick, who lives in Botley, discovered the run went towards a club championship, he signed himself and his daughter up for the run.

And their enthusiasm for the race was so inspiring that older daughter Holly, 12, decided she wanted to take part too.

Mr Barwick said: “Charlotte’s a keen runner so she’s always looking out for an event to run and it’s always good to be supporting a charity.

“We both go to the track at Tilsley Park on a Thursday evening and she sometimes comes out for a run with me but generally I run a bit too fast for her.

“I entered Charlotte knowing she would want to do it and then my other daughter wanted to join as well.

“We will try and get out together in the run up to the race.”

The 10km run takes place on Sunday, May 13, and raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Already 2,000 runners have signed up to take part and the charity hopes it will attract 3,500 to the starting line.

The charity has raised £1m in the 30 years it has been running the event, and is hoping £120,000 will be collected by runners next month.

The only member of the Barwick family not planning to pound the streets of Oxford is mum Claire.

Mr Barwick said: “She does run and completed a 10 mile race down in the New Forest last year, but this time she will be cheering along from the sidelines.”
