Sir – I am writing to highlight the escalating problem of parking cars in Abingdon. I work full time in the town, and have to park down by the river near the marina.
I was horrified this morning, as I arrived at 8.30 and only just found space the other side of Preston Road. I counted (including my car) 53 vehicles along there as I walked towards the iron bridge. I am a humble receptionist, and cannot afford £5.30-a-day parking in the car parks.
So, rethink on the town parking? I must say that the taxis are doing well, they seem to have hogged all the available nooks and crannies, and I see there are large signs about put up by clampers.
I get the feeling that we hard-working locals are not really wanted, but listen very carefully, I will say this only once ‘the council will kill this town, and I for one will not be in the ruins’.
