AS FAR as the Kidlington High Street pedestrianisation is concerned, the lack of consideration by councillors will make High Street businesses suffer.

The Lib/Labour controlled Kidlington Parish Council has made a financial blunder in pedestrianising Kidlington High Street, as within three days of its implementation it has taken a heavy toll on one outspoken trader who states that he may be forced to lay off staff as a direct result of this debacle.

At this difficult time, the country should be trying to get people into work, not out of it.

To quote councillor Chris Pack (Oxford Mail, April 23), who admits responsibility for planning pedestrianisation in the main street, “I am happy with how it has gone so far” appears a little short-sighted and too early an assessment to justify the council’s actions.

I would call on local traders to submit any adverse trading figures from the start of this enforced scheme and any job losses that may have resulted after April 16 to Kidlington Parish Council for its reflection and further considerations.

Would-be voters in the forthcoming local elections should take note of their elected local councillors’ decisions, especially when Kidlington Parish Council was the only one to increase its precept, whereas Cherwell District Council and others made no increases to your council tax for 2012/13.
