Sir – What a pity your review of Barefoot In The Park (Weekend, April 26) made no serious mention of the excellent cast. Faye Castelow as the very new, young and enthusiastic wife, Corrie Bratter, was an ideal choice for the part.

Her more buttoned-up husband, Paul was well ably presented by Dominic Tighe, especially in the scene where he struggles to understand how their first quarrel has taken over his need for sleep.

The reactions of the telephone repair man, played by David Partridge, when he inadvertently gets in the way during the aftermath of the quarrel, were a delight to watch.

The audience probably shared their concern for the well-being of the delivery man after his struggle up all the flights of stairs with the parcels, as Hayward Morse convinced us of his desperate need for breath.

Oliver Cotton played the ageing Velasco with verve and conviction.

Plaudits must go to Maureen Lipman who both directed the play and acted the part of the mother. We could have watched her all night as she tried to eat unfamiliar food and later, explained how she had slept without her board for the first time for many years, in an unfamiliar bedroom.

Whether she is wearing a fur coat, or a size 48 dressing gown, she is captivating.

I would like to thank everyone concerned for giving us a truly entertaining evening.
