In the 19th century, Sweden, Italy and several other European countries introduced a common currency among themselves.
Within a few years, the currency collapsed, allegedly because Italy abused the system.
There was no collapse of other currencies because of this, so why should there be now if Greece leaves the Euro?
Politicians have to put fear into Joe Public and make excuses for their failures.
Harold Wilson had his gnomes of Zurich: George Osbourne has the Euro alibi.
I think Nicholas Risley, a Maggie Thatcher minister, summed up the Euro and the EU well: βItβs just a racket to enable Germany to control Europe.β
