AN 18-YEAR-OLD dispute between neighbours played out in Oxford Crown Court yesterday as a man denied breaching a restraining order by clapping his hands and hurling insults.
Keith Quartermain, of Austin Place in Abingdon, is charged with three breaches of that order after allegedly calling his neighbour Catherine Fillier “ugly” outside her house as she got out of her car.
The 67-year-old was given the restraining order in 2003 banning him from insulting and harassing his neighbours.
Mrs Fillier told the court: “We have been complaining since 1994 and I have learned that you have to have a huge case to get anywhere.”
She said she had installed four CCTV cameras at her property and kept a log of incidents of rude behaviour by her neighbour.
Her nephew Nicholas Bird also gave evidence at the trial and told the court he had heard the words “she’s so ugly, isn’t she ugly” directed at his aunt when he had visited her.
Pc Simon Charlton told the court the defendant had denied making any comments of that kind in interview and blamed contractors working nearby. The trial continues.
