A COUNTRY park in West Oxfordshire could become a protected area as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Kilkenny Lane Country Park, between Brize Norton and Carterton, has been nominated in the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge.
The scheme aims to protect 2,012 outdoor recreational spaces across the country.
If successful, the park will be legally protected by Fields in Trust special status, honoured with a special commemorative plaque and become eligible for a range of grants to help fund improvements.
The park was nominated by West Oxfordshire District Council.
Cabinet member for communities Richard Langridge said: “Playing fields play a vital role in our communities and I am thrilled to see the launch of this fantastic new initiative.
“What better way to mark both the Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics than by ensuring future generations will have access to space for sport and play.”
Kilkenny Lane Country Park covers 50 acres and includes an adventure play area, picnic areas and space for horse riding, jogging and walking.
