SO now the police – well, PCSOs – are giving £30 fines to cyclists who go on the pavement.

If you are a cyclist you will understand every time we set off on today’s roads we risk death by seriously inconsiderate car drivers and bus drivers.

The roadworks on Iffley Road are a nightmare. It is a narrow single lane for cars and we cyclists are forced so close to the kerb.

We would cycle in our cycle lanes but usually cannot as cars park in them. Iffley Road, Cowley Road, Donnington Bridge are the worst.

Is it not illegal for cars to park in the cycle lanes?

I even questioned a police car driver who was parked in a cycle lane.

He said: ‘I’ll only be here a minute’. That minute could have meant me getting knocked off, swerving round to avoid his car and by the other selfish, inconsiderate car drivers parked in cycle lanes.

For a whole week on Donnington Bridge a black limo-type car was parked in the cycle lane at the top junction by the traffic lights with a ‘for sale’ sign on it.

Where possible I always cycle on the path as it’s safer.

I cannot wait to get my ticket for cycling on a pavement as I will not pay and insist on going to court, where I will there make my point regarding cars parking in our cycle lanes.

I have started taking photos and collecting registration numbers and I counted 61 in one day.

I have even had a bus driver behind me honking his horn, waving his arm for me to get out of the way and go on the path.

I phoned the bus company to complain and his manager just laughed and said he was late and on a tight schedule.

So come on PCSOs, let me get my ticket, then by the time I am finished you will have something slightly more worthwhile to do.
