Sir – Your critic is pleasingly complimentary to Sandi Toksvig in his review of her current serious success Bully Boy, but surely misses the point. Just because this is about an older and younger man does not mean it is a gay play. Just because the older man likes ballroom dancing does not mean he is gay.
Even if he were gay this would not mean his interest in the younger man must be sexual. The play is about the relationship between two military men, one older, one younger. Are we to believe straight men cannot have a profound relationship?
I think it is your critic, not Sandi Toksvig, who needs to question his stereotypical assumptions.
However, I am glad that, in common with the rest of the audience, he was clearly gripped by the performance at the Royal in Northampton. Readers should rush to judge for themselves!
