Motorists driving along the Cowley Road in Oxford are set to face disruption from tomorrow due to sewer works.
Two-way lights will be set up outside Ladbrokes to allow Thames Water to repair a broken sewer pipe.
The company has been working in the lay-by since last week but the section of damaged pipe is longer than first thought, meaning the road must now be dug up.
Thames Water said the lights would be marshalled at peak times to try and keep traffic flowing as well as possible.
Work will last for up to a week.
Company spokeswoman Becky Trotman said: "We’re sorry for the disruption the traffic lights will cause.
"We’ve tried really hard to repair the sewer by only working in the layby, but the pipe is badly damaged and we now need to dig in the road too.
"We’ll do all we can to get finished as soon as possible.”
