While PM David Cameron is moving the furniture at 10 Downing Street, it appears there will be a spot of redecoration at Oxford Town Hall.

The Lib Dems at Oxford City Council will be walking with an extra strut in their step after the council top brass agreed to give them a larger meeting room than the Green Party.

The room, which is one of two in Town Hall’s members’ suite, will have, The Insider is told, “Liberal Democrats” on the door so they can lock themselves away and no doubt isolate themselves from the problems the party is facing nationally.

Apparently the opposition group is being given free rein over the room’s fixtures and fittings as well.

We may never know what goes on in there, but our imagination is running riot with the possibility of portraits of Nick Clegg and David Lloyd George... and furniture in that lovely yellow-orange colour.

Office space at the Town Hall has been undergoing a shake-up as part of the council’s plan to reduce space and save cash.

It seems Thames Valley Police press officers are better at replying to our queries when there is, allegedly, no one in the office.

Press officers often struggle to return with answers to reporters’ questions when there are several on duty.

So imagine our surprise when on Bank Holiday Monday, they managed to reply to questions about a collision despite the fact no one was in the office.

In a reply to a reporter’s email request, a mystery voice wrote: “There is no one in the press office today.”

They followed this up with details about the collision and the condition of the driver involved, providing impressive amounts of detailed information....despite no one being there?

A big thank-you to whoever the mysterious informer was.

But if the bean counters at TVP find out about the ability to respond with no one in the office they’ll start looking even harder at the communications budget.

It seems Oxfordshire councils are still coming under cyber attack.

Last week The Insider reported that there were a few false messages being sent to Oxford Mail reporters.

Some of the hacked accounts included former County leader Keith Mitchell , pictured, and Oxford Town Hall.

Now it would appear Cherwell District Council is the latest victim.

Dubious messages have been received but again we have decided to leave the attachments well alone.

We urge councils to get their pest control teams onto this bug as soon as possible.
