Sir – If Oxford Preservation Trust (OPT) recognises the damage to Oxford’s heritage that would mean the infamously ugly Castle Mill blocks should be demolished in 30 years’ time (Report, June 11), what is stopping them from stating the obvious, that the buildings should come down now?

The beautiful view of the Grade 1-listed St Barnabas Church tower from Port Meadow, the unique views of the famous Dreaming Spires, and the precious highly-valued atmosphere of Port Meadow must surely be worth urgent restoration in the name of preserving our heritage. What is OPT for if not to stand up for this?

When did OPT become an apologist for the economics of the multi-millionaire Oxford University, putting their short-term economic gain before the common heritage of our places and people?
