A DRIVER who allegedly blocked paramedics rushing to help a dying woman is being hunted by police.

The ambulance was on the way to treat a woman in her 60s who had suffered a “medical emergency” in a Thame town centre home.

An air ambulance, two ambulances, and a community response car were sent to the Butter Market property at about midday on Sunday, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were treating the death as unexplained but not suspicious.

South Central Ambulance Service spokesman James Keating-Wilkes said an ambulance called to the incident was blocked by a driver on the A418 from Aylesbury.

He said: “One of the crews was unnecessarily delayed on route to the scene by a car that refused to pull over and one of the occupants was making rude gestures at our crew.

“When it’s a matter of life and death, every second counts. It’s hugely irresponsible for any member of the public to obstruct an emergency vehicle.”

Yet he added: “The delay was negligible and did not affect the patient’s outcome. But we would say people need to be responsible and if there is an ambulance trying to get through they need to pull over and let them through.”

Thames Valley Police spokesman Craig Evry said the force was investigating a report an ambulance was impeded by a car.
