OXFORD researchers are behind a major new study into the causes of bipolar disorder and the best way to treat and care for sufferers.
The survey for sufferers, their families, and medical workers, is today being announced and opened on Bipolar Awareness Day.
It is being funded partly by the National Institute for Health Research Oxford Biomedical Research Centre.
Dr Sophie Petit-Zeman, director of patient Involvement, said: “This is a great example of collaboration across universities, hospitals, charities, and patients. It is often the case that the research agenda is determined by the drug industry or researchers, rather than being informed by patients and those who care for them. It will provide vitally important information to direct research in the years ahead.”

More than a million people in the UK are thought to have bipolar - which causes periods of depressed mood and periods of elevated or irritable mood.
