YOUNGSTER Camren Haines is getting closer to being able to take his first steps by fundraising for an operation that will allow him to walk.

The four-year-old, from Kidlington, cannot stand due to cerebral palsy and needs to raise £65,000 to travel to the US for a life-changing operation.

He has been accepted on a programme at St Louis Children’s Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, which will allow him to stand for himself, and has raised almost £9,000 so far.

Charity Tree of Hope will arrange for the money to be spent on flights, accommodation, operation costs, as well as equipment and physiotherapy for the weeks after the operation.

Camren is one step closer to his goal thanks to the Witney branch of The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB), a fraternal organisation.

Members of the Buttercross Lodge donated £500 to Camren this month after member Robin Reeve’s wife, Julie, met Camren while working on the gate at West Kidlington Primary School, where Camren is a pupil.

Mr Reeve said: “My wife is good friends with Camren and his family and we wanted to help this little boy.”
