FLIPPING heck! Primary school pupils and adults dressed up as kings and queens to race around the centre of Wallingford for the annual Pancake Day celebration yesterday.

There were separate races for parents and youngsters, including pupils from Fir Tree Junior School in Radnor Road.

Among the children taking part was Ben Stevens, 10, who dressed as a knight.

Christian Sinkinson, who runs More Than Images photography studio in St Mary’s Arcade, also took part in the Shrove Tuesday event, organised by South Moreton Boxing Club manager John Houston.

Mr Sinkinson, who won the adult race for the third year running, said: “This year the theme for fancy dress was kings and queens so I dressed up as King Christian.

“We all completed about 10 laps around the Market Place but I was quite tired as I haven’t done much running since last year.

“It’s a big event for the children and they had to stage three different races to fit them all in.

“They had great fun dressing up as kings and queens, and people in the Market Place joined in by tucking into pancakes.

“It’s a great tradition for the town and everyone really enjoys it.”

The races are backed by Wallingford Town Council, which closes the Market Place to traffic each year for the event.
