A COMMUNITY came together to celebrate 50 golden years of Woodstock Primary School.

Teachers, staff, governors, residents, business owners and pupils old and new enjoyed a wide range of activities to celebrate the school’s special birthday.

The jam-packed long weekend included a church service, a ball at Blenheim Palace, a reunion and a street party – the festivities drawing to a close with Monday night’s school disco.

Headteacher Lisa Rowe said: “The school has gone from strength to strength in its 50 years and everyone has played a part in making it a success.

“The events were about congratulating those efforts: saying thank you and celebrating, and there was something for everyone over the weekend.”

Ms Rowe, who expressed her pride at serving the school for the past 12 years, also thanked those who had contributed to the weekend of activities.

She continued: “It’s been lovely. We truly are a church community school and everybody has just embraced it and enjoyed the celebration.”

Events got under way with a church service in St Mary Magdalene in Woodstock on Friday.

That evening, staff, parents and business owners came together at The Organgery at Blenheim Palace for a 'golden ball'.

The ball included performances by Jazmine Flowers and Ear Candy.

On Saturday a reunion was held at the school to help connect former pupils.

Then on Monday it was time for the children to have some fun with a street party and 'golden disco'.

Despite its name, the street party was held inside the school building, where children enjoyed a delicious birthday lunch and celebrations.

A time capsule, including a range of items signifying the date, was buried in the school grounds.

The hope is that it will be opened in another 50 years.

Topping off a fun-filled weekend, children came together for a disco in the school hall.

The school has thanked a number of sponsors including Flowers Estate Agents, ITB, Wise Investment, Woodstock Car Sales, Owen Mumford, Styled by Nina, Admiral Windows, Darke and Taylor and others.
