ASTON Rowant gave early notice of their Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West title intentions with a crushing nine-wicket win at Farnham Royal.

Winning the toss and fielding first in the 50-over contest, Rowant produced a good all-round team performance to bowl their hosts out for 152 in 48.1 overs.

Wickets were shared around with Rowant using no less than seven bowlers. Skipper Wesley Morrick chipped in with two wickets, but 18-year-olds Chris Leaney (3-26) and Adam Muttitt (2-22) bowled in tandem to take the last five between them.

Only Edmund Packard showed any ambition with the bat, his 32 equalling extras as Farnham’s top score.

Oxfordshire batsman Damian Shirazi and Tim Morgan then took Rowant within sight of victory with an opening stand of 116.

Tim Morgan departed for 47, but Nick Ferraby combined with Shirazi, who finished unbeaten on 71, to see Rowant home in the 44th over.
