Cool Bahamian sprang a 16-1 surprise when making a winning debut for Eve Johnson Houghton’s Blewbury stables, near Didcot, at Lingfield on Saturday.
The two-year-old colt quickened up nicely for John Fahy to beat Urban Dreamer by a neck in a five-furlong maiden stakes, despite his rider losing his whip.
Johnson Houghton had been unaware Fahy dropped his stick when making his challenge, and said: “He might have won more easily then!
“We’ll move up to six furlongs, probably for a novice race, see what happens then maybe get a bit over-excited.”
Johnson Houghton paid €18,000 for Cool Bahamian, who picked up a £10,000 Racing Post Yearling Bonus and first prize of £4,075 for his owners.
