NEWCOMERS East Oxford pulled off an impressive seven-wicket win on their Cherwell League debut at Horley, who won every match last season in Division 5.

Ali Malik (5-59) put the hosts in trouble, before Steve Palmer (44no) and Pete Papenfus (39no) took Horley to 153-6 from 45 overs.

Atif Ali (64no) steered East Oxford to 157-3 in 23.2 overs.

Former Oxfordshire opening bowler David Slade, who is rather slower nowadays, took 7-27 as Didcot crushed Stokenchurch by ten wickets.

The home side were out foronly 58 in 25 overs, before Simon Pritchard (38no) took Didcot to 59-0 in eight overs.

Piers Myatt rolled back the years to claim 5-34 as Great & Little Tew 2nd enjoyed their trip to Kingston Bagpuize.

Kingston, relegated last summer, could muster only 121 from 40.2 overs as Tew reached 126-6 in 39.2 overs.

Ben Denton scored 35 in Wallingford’s 200-9 and then took 4-63 from 18 overs to put Buckingham Town 2nd under pressure.

He was ably supported by Colin Allen (3-54), but Town (139-6) survived thanks in part to the weather – which reduced their innings to 43 overs – and to Andy Thatcher (35) and Ryan Spragg (43no).

Chearsley were bowled out by Witney Mills for 181 inside 48 overs.

Neil Davies hit 75, while Ben Madden took 4-35 and Steve Kelly 3-12.

No play was possible after the interval.
