Oxford RL gained revenge for defeat earlier in the season against South Wales Scorpions as they went back to fourth in Kingstone Press Championship One with a 28-6 win at the Gnoll.

After going behind to an early Jack Murphy penalty, the visitors hit back from the restart, cashing in on an error with Jonny Leather going over in the corner. Leather missed the conversion.

They extended their lead when Shaun Robinson intercepted close to his line and ran the length of the field, only to be caught just short. The ball was picked up by Sean Morris for try No 2.

Oliver Johnson increased Oxford’s lead with another unconverted try on 31 minutes and then Robinson went over in the corner. Leather’s conversion went in off the post to give Oxford an 18-2 lead at the break.

Seven minutes into the second half, Morris got his second try after another knock-on from the home side.

Scorpions finally crossed the line on 53 minutes when Haydn Peacock darted through. Murphy sliced his kick wide to leave the score at 22-6.

Oxford cemented victory with a superb try on 72 minutes.

Robinson evaded six would-be tacklers on a 60-metre run before laying off to John Clough, who had Matty Hadden in support to complete the move by scoring under the sticks. Leather added the extras.

Oxford entertain the University of Gloucestershire All Golds next Sunday.
