Opening batsman Ed Phillips could line up in Banbury’s Division 1 game against North Mymms at White Post Road tomorrow – despite having a broken thumb.

Phillips suffered the injury three weeks ago, but the fracture was discovered only yesterday when he had an X-ray.

He now faces an operation next week, but his brother, captain Jimmy Phillips, said he may still play and is named in a 12-man squad.

Lloyd Sabin returns to the top of the order following his holiday.

Banbury went down to a three-wicket defeat at North Mymms earlier in the season, when Hertfordshire captain Nesan Jeyaratnam hit a superb century.

Jimmy Phillips said: “He played shots all around the ground and it came off for him.

“They have some other dangerous batters like Andy Lewis, so we know what they are capable of and we are not taking them lightly, but it is a game we hope to do well in.”

Oxford captain Ian Crosby is keen to see his second-placed side regain the winning habit as they visit Farnham Royal in Division 2 West.

Oxford thrashed the Bucks club by eight wickets earlier in the season, but have drawn their four completed games since the league switched from the 50-over win-lose format.

Crosby said: “I think they have strengthened a bit since then and we are on a bit of a roll where we are playing quite well and not just getting over the line, so it’s important to get back to winning ways.”

Oxford make one change, with Joe Porter replacing Tim Sutton, who is at a wedding. Stuart Hole is still on holiday.

Skipper Andy Harris is looking forward to his Great & Little Tew side testing themselves against Aston Rowant at home in this format – having beaten them by four wickets in the 50-over contest earlier in the season.

Harris, who names an unchanged team, said: “Rowant have a different side to the one we played and it is another challenge for us playing in the longer form of the game, which bring slightly different rules and tactics.”

Rowant are also unchanged following their thrilling draw against Farnham Royal last week when the sides finished on level scores.
