OXFORD City boss Mike Ford has urged giant striker Geoff Mitchell to keep up the good work when they travel to Didcot Town for tomorrow’s pre-season friendly.

The 22-year-old, who scored in the 1-0 friendly win at Aylesbury FC last Saturday, was invited for a trial at the Conference North side after emailing boss Mike Ford.

And Ford said he was impressed by the 6ft 5ins frontman.

“He’s a big unit and really stands out from the crowd,” said Ford.

“He emailed me and asked if he could show what he could do and we asked him along.

“I think if he was 5ft 10ins or 5ft 11ins then I probably would not have been interested, but he’s a real handful for defenders. He took his goal well and we will continue to monitor him.”

The game marks a swift return for recent signing defender Lee Henderson, who signed last month from the Railwaymen.

Ford added: “Lee has done really well since he signed. His attitude is first-class. He did well in the 45 minutes he played at Aylesbury. “He’s got a bit of pace and will add to the group this year.

“He’s been good – all the new signings have. Their attitude has been outstanding.

“Everyone has worked amazingly hard and we’ve had no injuries so far.” Ford intends to field two teams – one in each half – against Andy Wallbridge’s side, to give him a chance to look at all the players.

  • HELLENIC League Division 1 East side AFC Hinksey have signed strikers Jack Dunmall and Ryan Curtin, both from Kidlington.

They have also retained the services of last season’s leading scorer, Anaclet Odhiambo.
