Oxfordshire's Lucy Brown lived up to her No 1 seeding by winning the British Tour event at North Oxford.
Brown, 20, from Elsfield, near Oxford, took the honours with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win over wild card entry Beth Askew, from Lancashire, in the final.
The Oxfordshire No 2 survived a scare in the round of 16 against Middlesex’s Tiffany William, before going through 6-1, 6-7, 6-2.
The event was a Grade 2 competition, lower than the usual Grade 1/International events Brown competes in.
However, the win will elevate her a place in the British rankings to No 15.
NORTH Oxford’s Tom Bowden claimed his third Oxfordshire Senior County Closed title with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sam Murrell (Portcullis).
He was unable to make it a brace of titles in the doubles as, with clubmate Christian Petersen, they lost 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 to youngsters Bradley Marriott and Joel Morris.
EDUARDO Pereira produced the best performance by an Oxfordshire junior at the Penny & Sinclair Tennis Championships at Virgin Active, Oxford.
Pereira knocked out top seed Cem Ortel (Hampshire) 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the 18 and under event.
But he had to settle for second place after losing the final 6-3, 6-4 to Gloucestershire’s Elliott Hopson.
WHEATLEY host an LTA grade 4 junior event for the first time next week.
