With little flow, and plenty of swimmers and boats, the second round of the Oxford Summer League on the Medley stretch of the Thames was always going to be hard.

And so it proved for the 40 anglers in sweltering conditions.

The more isolated stretch at the top of the venue was the place to be for all of the top weights.

Graham Godwin (Turners) led them home with 13.4.0, comprising three bream, plus perch and roach, on pole-fished worm over chopped worm and caster feed.

Devizes angler Graham Will-iams caught mainly perch on pole and chop for 12.12.0, followed by Gary Barclay (Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths) with 10.3.0.

Teams: 1 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Red 31pts, 2 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths Blue 30, 3= Turners, Tubertini 27.

League: 1 Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths 62pts, 2 Turners 60.

Rissington was on song in round eight of the Oxford Carp League.

Craig Partridge topped the 18-strong field with 127.2.0 using just the top kits of his pole down either edge, with corn over groundbait to catch carp to 6lb.

Robin Guppy fished at 16m on pole and shallow tactics, using meat to take 125.0.0, while Andy Dixie caught 114.8.0 from the flier point peg, with fish to 8lb close in.

North Oxford AS entertained Marston FTB on their stretch of the Cherwell at Marston Ferry Link Road, where 18 fished and bream dominated.

Steve Wildman (North Oxford) found 17.6.0 of them on the feeder, alternating between bread and worm, to win from Maurice Winstone (NOAS), who fished pole with chopped worm to take four bream, plus bits, for 14.5.0.

Bob Yeomans (NOAS/RAF Garbolino) had 11.0.0 for third.

Overall result: North Oxford 56.14.0, Marston FTB 17.10.0.

Eight anglers took part in Masons AC’s points match at Jack’s Pond, Didcot.

Paul Armstrong, drawn on an unfavoured weedy swim, won with two carp on boilies for 14.14.0 and losing another three in the thick weed. He also won the golden peg.

Second, with a single fish of 13.10.0 from the margins on a single grain of corn, was Phil Light, while third place went to Jason Smith, with small rudd and a carp for 7.0.0.

Tackley Estates AC were on the Thames at Radley for their Len Churchill Trophy, fished by eight.

Frank Malone triumphed with roach and perch on pole and caster for 4.3.0, pipping his son, Stephen, by just an ounce.

John Spencer was third with 3.3.0.
