Lucy Thomas set a new landmark with a fine innings to guide Oxford Downs into the third round of the Under 13 Lady Taverners T20 Competition.

Her knock of 101 included 18 boundaries and is the first century scored by a girl in a club competition played in Oxfordshire.

It is also believed to be the first ton in the history of the Lady Taverners.

Thomas’s contribution was key as Downs posted 155-3 from their allocation.

Genevieve Miles (3-19) was the only bowler to make a breakthrough.

Shipton did a good job of chasing the imposing total and Holly Gordon led the way with an unbeaten 76.

She shared a partnership worth 102 with Martha Duffy (26), but nine-year-old Florence Miller (5-31) and Thomas (3-19) ensured Shipton finished on 146-6.

Shipton’s under 15s fared better, as Ellie Gorton shone with bat and ball as Banbury were thrashed by eight wickets in the Oxfordshire Girls’ Under 15 Trophy final.

Batting first in hot conditions at Combe, Banbury struggled to score.

Opener Emily Ong’s dogged 17 helped guide them to 79-6, but Shipton’s run chase was never in trouble.

Gorton, who had been the pick of Shipton’s bowlers with 2-12, provided the anchor with 25 not out as they reached 82-2 to claim the title.
