Abingdon Vale’s bowling attack stood out as they won the Oxfordshire Under 11 Competition at Charlbury.

After knocking over Shipton-under-Wychwood for 64 in the semi-final, they went on to dismiss Aston Rowant for just 58.

Zach Lion-Cachet was the star, taking a hat-trick in his 4-7 haul, to put Vale in charge.

Luke Maslen’s unbeaten 27 ensured there were no problems in the run chase, reaching their target for the loss of only two wickets.

The club’s under 13s could not make it a double, as they were edged out by Buckinghamshire champions Chesham in the first round of the national championship.

Chasing 107 for victory, Tom Price’s 31 put Vale on target, before two run outs halted the charge as they finished agonisingly close on 102-7.

In league action, Oxford won their Group A clash with Kennington by 67 runs.

Unbeaten knocks of 30 from Amaan Dogar and William Hale, backed up by William Sheehan (20no) saw them post 114-6.

In reply, Bilal Dilpazir returned figures of 3-6 as Kennington were dismissed for 47.

Oxford Downs stayed top of Group B with a seven-wicket win at East & West Hendred. The hosts made 104-7, with Thomas Gould (30no) their top scorer, but Downs paced their reply well and Gus Miller’s unbeaten 30 saw them home in the 19th over.

Alex Schoff produced the outstanding performance in the Under 17 competition games.

His 102 steered Aston Rowant to an imposing 209-4 in their Group C clash with Abingdon Vale.

Jason Cardy hit 58 in the reply, but a successful chase never looked on the cards and Vale could only muster 95-4, 115 runs short.
