PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY

LONDON Welsh showed Chinnor no mercy, scoring 17 tries in a 107-5 victory at Kingsey Road.

The Exiles fielded different teams in each of the three 30-minute periods as they tore Chinnor apart, with wing Joe Ajuwa scoring a hat-trick of tries.

Chinnor hosted the Greene King IPA Championship side as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations, but they are unlikely to have faced such strong opposition before.

Welsh suffered an early blow when Alex Davies went off with a hamstring injury, but his replacement Seb Jewell scored with his first touch.

Captain Tom May, Ajuwa, Ollie Steadman and Daniel Browne also went over in the first period, Will Robinson converting three to make it 31-0.

Having begun in a black kit, Welsh’s side wore red in the second period, which ended with them 88-0 ahead.

Matt Corker, Seb Stegmann, James Lewis, Nick Scott, Jewell, Ajuwa (2), Mitch Lees and Nathan Trevett scored tries, with Gordon Ross slotting six conversions.

Chinnor wore yellow, black and yellow again, faring far better in the third period against the now purple-clad Welsh.

Although Corker opened the scoring, the hosts finally enjoyed a sustained spell of pressure.

And the home crowd had something to cheer when Will Millett broke clear to score in the corner.

Pete Browne and Dan Browne rounded off Welsh’s try tally, with Robinson adding two more conversions.
