DAN Browne said that a half-time “earful” from London Welsh’s coaches fired them up to beat Plynouth Albion.
The back-row forward, who was named man-of-the-match, felt Welsh were able to finish strongly after a slowish start.
“It was the first home game of the season and we wanted to deliver a statement to the other teams,” said Browne.
“I don’t think we did that in the first half. We really struggled to string things together and go through the phases.
“We got a good hurry-up at half-time from the coaches, who gave us an earful.
“We really needed to come out and play a lot better and be more clinical.
“I think we were able to do that, which was really good.”
Browne added: “If we can just put in an 80-minute performance, we will really show what we can do.”
Plymouth head coach James Shanahan said his players would learn lessons after being overpowered.
Albion’s first defeat of the season was ultimately emphatic and Shanahan was realistic afterwards.
He said: “We only got in their 22 once in the second half, so their power and pressure game told in the end.
“The boys are really disappointed, but London Welsh are probably one of the best packs that they are going to come across this year and we have to realise that.”
