After 15 league and cup games, Abingdon United finally recorded their first win of the season when they won 3-2 away to Clanfield in the first round of the Uhlsport Hellenic League's Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup on Saturday.

But they needed extra time before seeing off the challenge of the Division 1 West side.

Abingdon twice took the lead, through Leon Blackmore in the 22nd minute Keiron Cochrane in the 65th.

But the hosts hit back each time through Jordan Cormack on the half-hour, and a 70th-minute own goal byAbingdon defender Cameron McNeill. Graham Edney scored the winner in the 116th minute from Chris Rutherford’s cross. Not to be outdone by their neighbours, Abingdon Town recorded a 4-1 win at Old Woodstock Town. Drew Fowler scored twice and there were also goals from Richard Morgan and Joe Parker. Danny Roberts replied.

Milton United, of Division 1 East , triumphed 1-0 at home to Premier Division side Thame United with Alex Bruce netting the only goal from the penalty spot.

Ardley United trounced Malmesbury Victoria 8-0, Ryan Brooks registering his second successive hat-trick. There were goals also for Troy Bryan, Callum Convey, Stuart Bridges, Chris Jackson and Dean Smith.

Carterton beat Didcot Town Res 2-0, with goals from Elharram Hodafa and Aaron Witham.

Headington Amateurs suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 2-0 at home to Purton, whose goals came from Jonathan Coole and Mitch Wyatt.

Oxford City Nomads went down 3-1 at home to Highworth Town, having won their Premier Division clash in midweek There were two goals from Highworth’s TJ Bohane and one from Matt Horsell, while Ben Moses replied for Nomads.

Kidlington won 4-2 at Hook Norton with goals from Mike Duerden, Lewis Brownhill, Julius Muraga and Ben Fitzmartin.

Chris Tillcock scored both of Hook Norton’s goals from the penalty spot.

Richard Guy netted a hat-trick as Wantage Town beat Fairford Town 4-2, with the other goals coming from Tom Melledew. Jack Allan and Alex Rudd scored for Fairford.
