Briony Hearn and Bex Oakes put in starring roles as Oxford Hawks Ladies took the honours in the Investec League Conference West clash at Exeter.

Stout defending from Hearn was key as the visitors, led by skipper Oakes, held on for a 2-1 win.

Hawks broke the deadlock when Katie Hewitt slotted the ball through the advancing keeper’s legs.

Exeter started strongly in the second half and were soon level.

However, cool Oakes finished off a penalty corner, her second goal in two games, and Hearn and Hawks held on.

Kidlington earned a 2-2 draw in their Trysports 3-Counties League Division 1 clash with Oxford 4th.

Shelley Hopper gave them a flying start, scoring inside a minute and she added to that before the interval.

Oxford upped their game in the second period, and after equalising were denied a winner by keeper Elaine Freeman.

Bicester ladies were consigned to a 2-1 defeat despite a battling display against Aylesbury.

The visitors made the breakthrough but Ruth Thomas quickly powered into the D to score an equaliser. However they conceded a crucial second just before the break. Gina Girvan was again awarded dame of the game.
