Oxford City Stars tough guy Andy Cox found himself behind bars before his side’s win over Wightlink.

Cox, who is Oxford’s most penalised player of all time, was sent to Oxford Castle Unlocked as part of a unique partnership between the tourist attraction and the club.

The castle prison is putting its name to the sin bin at Oxford Ice Rink – as well as sponsoring Cox himself.

The defender’s visit to the prison had little effect, however, as he was ejected from the 8-3 victory with a major penalty for slashing.

Michael Speight, general manager at Oxford Castle Unlocked, commented: “We are proud to form this partnership with the Oxford City Stars.

“Sponsoring the sin bin is perfect for us because as a visitor attraction based in a former prison, we’re used to locking up criminals, or in this case players, who break the rules.” Cox added: “Sponsorships like this are great as they raise the profile of the club and add to the team morale with more and more fans coming to watch us.”

Cox has spent more than ten hours in the sin bin during his time with the Stars.
