OCA champions Westbury have turned down the chance to join the Cherwell League.

The Bucks club took the decision at a meeting of players and officials on Tuesday night.

Westbury skipper Rich-ard Tredwell said: “We’ve decided to stay where we are and then look at the situation in 12 months’ time.

“So we’re going to try our best to win it again next year.

“There were a lot of reasons for our decision, but I would rather not discuss those.”

With OCA runners-up Shrivenham dropping their interest in joining the Cherwell before the end of the season, it means that there won’t be any new clubs in the league in 2014.

And with no teams coming down from the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League, and Horspath going up, two teams will be relegated and three teams promoted now from each division throughout the Cherwell.

This means in addition to the top four divisions where three teams won promotion at the end of the season, Kimble, Didcot 2nd, Great & Little Tew 3rd, Didcot 3rd, Tiddington 3rd and Stokenchurch 2nd will now go up from Divisions 5 to 10 respectively.

Wallingford must seek re-election at the annual meeting after falling foul of the rule which saw their 2nd XI forfeit three games, while Cropredy are set to field a 3rd XI next season.

Meanwhile, David Steele, BBC Sports Personality in 1975 for his heroic batting in the Ashes series against Australia, has been confirmed as the guest speaker for the Cherwell’s dinner at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford, on Saturday, October 19.
