OXFORD City secretary John Shepperd was still coming to terms with his big day after shaking hands with the Duke of Cambridge at a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Football Association.
“It was a day I will remember for the rest of my life,” said the 78-year-old, who later received a gold medal in honour of his long service to non-league football.
“It was quite an emotional day, as I was very honoured to be part of a very special occasion,” added Shepperd, who has been City’s secretary for 38 years.
He and his son, Alan, later watched a match between the Civil Service and Polytechnic on the Buckingham Palace lawn.
