FIELDSIDE A brushed aside New Club A 6-1 the Simonds Cup, writes DAVID WHITE.

The home side reeled off the first five frames to leave New Club reeling.

Paul Robinson won the first and fourth frames against Ian Gee, although Gee was unlucky to go down by just three points in the opener.

Karl Walker won both his frames against Justin Shepherd, while Mick Bennett and Alan Mander shared the spoils.

Bury Knowle A also progressed to round two with a 5-2 win against Oracle A.

Dave Noake took the opening frame for Oracle with a slender victory over James Stone, but Bury Knowle roared back to claim the next three.

Chris Stone pipped Ted Milsom by two points in the second, while Andy MacBryan got the better of Jamie Saczak in the third.

James Stone avenged his earlier defeat by Noake to win the fourth frame at a canter.

Chris Stone made the match safe with victory over Ted Milsom, before Jamie Saczak won the last frame for Oracle.

Witney A showed no mercy to Riley C, the Premier Division runners-up handing out a 7-0 whitewash.

In the Sherlock Cup, Eynsham C upset Morris Motors C 5-1.

Eynsham finished second bottom of Division 6, while Morris Motors C had secured promotion from Division 4.

The only bright spot for Morris Motors was when James Griffin took the fourth frame from Alan Wakefield, who had earlier won the opener.

Eynsham's other frames came from Jason Stubbs, who collected both against Steve Kirkland, while Mick Lyne pipped Bob Hayward by a single point in the third.

With the match already won, the sixth frame was not played.

Littlemore RBL A, promoted from Division 5, also caused a major upset with a 4-3 win over Division 2 champions House Club B.

Nigel DeBanks set Littlemore on their way with a win over Keith Philpott.

Steve Fitzgerald then beat Paul Larkins to extend Littlemore's lead, before Mike Augar made it 2-1, defeating Richard Berry on the black.

The fourth frame saw Philpott gain revenge on DeBanks to level things up, with Larkins then beating Fitzgerald to put House Club ahead for the first time.

In the decisive final frame, Berry hit a 26 break and went on to win 66-32 to tie the frame scores at 3-3, which was enough to send Littlemore through on aggregate points.

Cowley Con C, relegated to Division 5, also sprang a surprise, defeating Headington RBL A, newly promoted to Division 2, 6-1.

John Simpson won both his frames against Elaine Cox, with Brian Mabbutt doing likewise against Fran Mapplethorpe. Neil Kirby also contributed to the win, halving his frames with Brian Simmonds.
