BEEHIVE AC fished their Christmas match at a very frosty Lower Court, but at the end of the day, most anglers had an early present.

Andy Crabb drew the much-fancied Island peg and alternated between feeder and float for a winning weight of 77.12.0 of carp, taking either maggot or corn.

Kevin Jeacock drew the not-so-fancied shallow end and fished the waggler with maggot well up, taking second place with 67.2.0, which included five good grass carp.

Pegged nearby, Nigel Waters fished the pole and corn for a third-placed 65.12.0.

Despite the cold conditions, over 340lb of fish made the scales from the 13 anglers.

Kinloch's Christmas match was held at Ridge Way and the venue certainly fished better than last week.

Using the pole with maggot on the hook, Joe Welch was first with 20.10.0 of carp and roach.

Also on the maggot, fished well over, Paul Woodley put 16.9.0 of carp on the scales for second place, while third, with 10.10.0 of carp, was Dave Williams.

Besides the Christmas match, the 32 anglers were also fishing for the Points Shield and the Pairs Cup.

oJolly Anglers were on the Oxford Reach of the Thames where seven members found the river coming back up after Friday's rain.

Using a caged feeder with liquidised bread, Frank Butler fished down the edge to find some roach and skimmers for a win with 9.5.0.

Dick Edmunds also fished down the edge, but used a groundbait feeder with maggot to tempt 7.11.0 of roach for second, just beating Terry Jones with 7.6.0 of roach on feeder and maggot.

Martin MacDonald did something completely different, fishing a stick float to finish fourth with 6.6.0, which included a roach of 1.2.0 and a perch of 1.9.0 - pretty good going in the conditions.

Pegged by the Mile Stone, Maurice Winstone was the clear winner of North Oxford's Christmas match fished on the Oxford Canal at King's Bridge.

The ten anglers found the canal dirty and with hardly any flow, but Winstone bagged two chub, plus some bits, for a winning 6.4.0 on the pole with chopped worm and maggot.

In second place with a mixed net weighing 4.11.0 was Colin Quartermain, who was pegged just below King's Bridge. He fed chopped worm and used red maggot on the hook.

The chop and maggot combination also worked for Julian Humm, who was third with a net of bits worth 4.2.8.

Masons' Christmas match was fished on the canal at the Rock of Gibraltar and was of two contrasting halves.

The length with the sun on it fished OK, but the stretch in the shadows was hard going.

Only an ounce separated first and second places, Michael Cullen emerging the winner with four chub on worm from hard against the side of a boat for 5.9.0.

With a net of bleak on maggot, Andy Benwell took second with 5.8.0, followed by Dave Pether with 4.10.0 of gudgeon taken on the whip and bloodworm.

The canal at Grovelands was the venue for Kidlington's Wise Alderman Christmas Shield, and the 20 anglers found it clear with a nice flow.

Ivan Graham fished pinkie over joker to come out top with 4.14.0 of bits to take the shield.

Using red maggot, Tony Keppie netted 3.5.0 of roach for second place, and third with 1.14.0 of small roach on double joker was Jason Bean.

After Friday's rain, the Thame at Warren Barn was rising throughout Cuddesdon Mill VAA's Cuddesdon Cup, but with ten matchmen turning up, it was decided to fish it.

Legering pieces of bread, Mick Harding had three chub for a winning 4.7.0.

Dave Spooner legered maggot and had a roach and some gudgeon for a second-placed 1.5.0, followed by Roger Smith with a four ounce roach.

It was a struggle for the 21 anglers who turned out for Sutton Courtenay's Christmas Cup, fished on the Culham Cut.

Sat opposite the brambles, Trevor Martin (Didcot Angling Centre) used a groundbait feeder with caster and hooked two roach and a perch for a winning 2.4.0.

A decent perch, plus some small ones, gave Charlie Brant 1.4.0 for second, while Alan Hewer finished third with a total of 1.2.0.

A raffle raised £193 for Cancer Relief.
