Aston Rowant trainer Lawney Hill had a successful weekend with Billy Twyford’s win at Newbury on Saturday followed by Chapoli-moss’s victory at Huntingdon yesterday.

Hill has had a quiet time of it lately, but the brace of winners served notice that her string are back in form.

Billy Twyford benefitted from the assistance of 18-times champion jockey Tony McCoy as he took the Betfair Supporting Greatwood Handicap Hurdle to give Hill her first Newbury winner.

The seven-year-old was headed approaching the last flight in the extended three-mile contest, but he stayed on in gutsy fashion to beat Who Owns Me by a length. Hill said of the 9-4 favourite: “I am delighted with him because it is not his ground.

“AP rode him funny enough before we bought him and said he needed left-handed tracks and slightly further.

“I thought we were dead and buried going to the second-last, but to be fair to the little horse he has gutsed it out.

“McCoy is brilliant and gets them back on the bridle and gets them to believe in themselves.” The champion jockey added: “He battled on really well in fairness to him.

“I rode him a long time ago for Nicky Henderson and obviously he is with Lawney Hill now and she has won a few races with him and done well with him.”

And the weekend got even better for Hill when Chapoli-moss stormed home by 15 lengths from Lively Baron under Nick Scholfield in the 32Red Handicap Chase over three miles at Huntingdon yesterday.

Ben Case, who trains at Edgcote, near Banbury, was also among the winners at Huntingdon when Themanfrom Minella got off the mark under National Hunt Rules.

The five-year-old was eased down by Daryl Jacob as he crossed the line three and a half lengths clear of Glowingthedark in the maiden hurdle over an extended two and a half miles.
