RYAN Clarke and Andy Whing will miss Oxford United's pre-season after it emerged the pair need operations.

Clarke, United’s player of the season, requires surgery to correct a long-standing problem affecting a bone in one of the goalkeeper’s feet.

Whing has been suffering with a hip injury and will go under the knife tomorrow.

Both will be ruled out of pre-season, while Clarke is expected to miss the first month of the 2014/15 campaign, which begins on August 9.

The Oxford Times: Andy Whing has set his sights on bringing Oxford United a much-needed victory tomorrow at Chesterfield

I understand the Ryan Clarke's injury is a long standing one. Why wasn't it deal with when he had operations last season? Whilst it's a blow to lose him for the start of the season, I'm happy to see Crocombe get an opportunity.

It's more than slightly worrying that Wing is having another op. Didn't he already have two in quick succession this season as well? He's a great player to have when fit but you have to wonder whether his previous club knew he was a bit crocked when they let him go. Or maybe we knew it too, but took a Leven-esque gamble.

So much for all the money spent on sports science as it would seem as usual we had more injuries than almost any other team in L2.

Anyways, silence as usual from the numptys who run the club while others around us are getting on with there business, or are they waiting to see what gems the World Cup will produce so we can get them cheap?

Waddonk out.

Dolly 76 .....That would be sensible have a foot operation whilst having double shoulder surgery, how would he be able to recover properly or use crutches with two recovering shoulders!!

Seriously think about it!

I think it's quite amazing he played the whole season with an injury and still had his best season and won both oxford awards.

Wish whingy all the best for his op tomorrow and clarkey!

Ok fair enough! But given the way the season was going, he could be a month closer to fitness if he missed the last few games of the season.
All credit to him, he's always been a consistent player for us.
