BOXING: Double-chasing Joe out to make history

Joe Jackson Brown has warned title rival Wesley Clarke that he is in for a painful lesson next month, when the pair collide at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace.

The 22-year-old Banbury light heavyweight will face Cambridge’s Clarke in a showdown for the Queensbury Boxing League’s vacant regional title on the undercard.

Brown will create history on the night if he can emerge with the title to become the first two-weight champion from Oxfordshire.

Jackson Brown was last in competitive action back in November when he claimed the league’s vacant light cruiserweight title with a second-round knockout of arch rival Ray Welsh in front of the Sky Sports TV cameras.

With the prospect of being crowned a two-weight king, the stakes could not be higher for the undefeated prospect.

Brown said: “Wesley Clarke has got his work cut out on July 12 and I’m just going to be too quick, too strong and too powerful for him to handle.

“I’ve watched Clarke box several times in the league and he can box a bit and is more experienced than me.

“But he likes to fight at his own pace and when he’s taken out of his comfort zone he just can’t handle it.

“When I last fought, I was competing in the light cruiserweight division, so I’m coming down to this weight and doing everything right to make the weight so he’s going to feel my shots.

“I can guarantee he’s never been hit as hard as I’m going to hit him.

“Getting the KO is always nice and if it comes in this fight that’s great, but I’ll be just as happy to beat him up for the whole fight and grab my second title.”
