Tiddington’s 1995 National Village Cup runners-up prevailed over the Oxfordshire’s 2008 Over 50’s national champions in a match between two of the county’s Lord’s finalists.

Hosts Tiddington won by seven wickets in a game that was the brainchild of Adrian Manger, a member of both Lord’s sides, who celebrated his 60th birthday last week.

Before the game, there was a minute’s silence for former Oxon captain Phil Garner, a member of the Over 50s champions, who died in 2009.

Others missing from that team were Alec Cunningham and Steve Partington for personal reasons.

Batting first, the Over 50s made 174-6 from their 40 overs, thanks to Malcolm Evans (57), who hit five sixes, and Adrian Manger (38), who had to negotiate some testing early deliveries from younger brother Phil.

Neil Smith, now bowling left-arm spin rather than seam, took 3-20.

Tiddington raced to 176-3 in just 27 overs after an opening stand of 140 between Nick Edmondson (86) and Jeff Higgs (46), who missed the 1995 final because of injury.
