Great & Little Tew will try to banish all thoughts of playing at Lord’s when they visit Dinton on Sunday in the semi-finals of the Davidstow Village Cup.

The winners of this last-four clash between two teams in Division 2 of the Home Counties Premier League will play in the final at cricket’s HQ on Sunday, September 7.

If they prevail, Tew will be come the third Oxfordshire club after Tiddington and Shipton-under-Wychwood to have achieved a Lord’s final.

“As far as I’m concerned this is just another game of cricket, we must concentrate on winning,” said Tew skipper Andy Harris.

Dinton, he thinks, will start as favourites for three reasons.

“They defeated us in the league earlier in the season, they experienced playing at this stage last season and have home advantage,” said Harris.

However, Dinton’s experience in last year’s semi was not a happy one as they lost to Rockhampton by 94 runs.

Tew have named a squad of 14 for the tie.

They will be without batsman Curtly Slatter and seamer Matt Woods, both of whom have played for the county this season.

The fixture has posed problems for Tew, who are staging Oxfordshire’s three-day match against Berkshire, starting on Sunday.

However, Gordon Taylor, the club’s legendary groundsman, will be going to watch his club try to get to Lord’s, a replacement for him having been found for the day.

In the other semi-final, former winners Woodhouse Grange, from Yorkshire, will play Milford Hall, from Staffordshire.
