HEADINGTON School’s quartet won medals in eight events as part of one of Britain’s finest team performance at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Poznan, Poland, writes John Wiggins.

The regatta got off to a flying start with the women’s eights.

The British win, with three Headington girls aboard, was a sign of things to come.

Danielle Semple went on to win a further two golds in the double scull, while Isabel Rundle and Lydia Currie in the four, improved from bronze to silver over the two days.

Katie King-Smith, under the guidance of her Headington School coach Bethan Thomas competed in the quad with a major step on from fourth to a silver on Sunday.

The eight was another double gold for Britain with Abingdon School’s Tom Wilbin adding success for the men’s team to that of the women, thereby securing the overall team trophy.

Other Abingdon boys are in the the junior team for the World Championships in Rotterdam later this month.

Adam Teece makes his first appearance racing in the pair, while Tom Digby is in his third junior championship, hoping to convert his past two silver medals into gold – this time in the quad scull.

Wallingford RC secured the Victor Ludorum award at Henley’s Town and Visitors Regatta over 800m.

Five of their seven victories were in double sculls – women’s Masters D and Senior, the mixed IM3 and men’s Masters G, as well as brothers, David and James Willcox winning the junior event.

Wallingford also won the men’s IM3 coxed four and the women’s IM1 quad.

Oxford’s Falcon RC took the women’s IM3 coxed four, but City of Oxford and Oxford Academicals lost out in each of their three finals.

For the Academicals’ Masters C double, the result went to Abingdon RC’s Dave Reeves and Paul Godsafe.

Abingdon’s other victory was from their J14 double of Charlotte Rowley and Leonie Watson.
