United boss Darren Patterson is happy with the way pre-season is shaping up, ahead of four home friendlies, starting with the visit of what will be a youthful Man Utd XI to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

"I've learned a great deal in the last three weeks," Patterson said. "The spirit is good, and the players' attitude is good.

"But I don't read anything into the results. Pre-season results don't mean anything."

Tickets for the game against a Man Utd XI, who will have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge ahead of his forthcoming Old Trafford testimonial, are selling well, according to Oxford United's ticket office.

  • UNITED'S Blue Square Premier game at Altrincham in October has been moved back 24 hours to the Sunday.

The match at Moss Road will now take place on Sunday, October 12 (3pm) because Oxford are playing a Setanta-televised match at Torquay on Thursday, October 9.

  • ROTHERHAM have signed Reuben Reid after he scored in their pre-season friendly against Scunthorpe. The former Plymouth striker was on trial at Oxford earlier this month.
  • MICHAEL Standing, at United for much of last season, has joined Blue Square Premier rivals Lewes.
