Oxford captain Jason Harrison says they have a stronger squad as they bid to regain the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 1 title they won in 2007.

Despite losing Adam Cook and Pat Jobson, Oxford have made five signings.

Opening batsman Chris Sandbach and wicket-keeper/ batsman Jamie Perkin have joined from Oxford Downs.

Oxford have also snapped up all-rounder David Smith and seamer Graeme Cessford.

Former Leicestershire-contracted batsman Nick Ferraby, who Harrison expects to be one of the league’s leading players, completes the quintet.

“We are stronger in all departments,” said Harrison.

“Our seam bowling is stronger even though we don’t know how much (Northants-contracted) Jack Brooks will be available.”

New Zealander Raj Sharma, an Oxford University student, remains as overseas player.

Harrison added: “Our target is to improve on last year, it is as simple as that.”

IN: Chris Sandbach (opening batsman, Oxford Downs), Jamie Perkin (batsman / wicket-keeper, Oxford Downs), Nick Ferraby (batsman, Kibworth), David Smith (all-rounder, Kent Academy), Graeme Cessford (seamer, Chester-le-Street).

OUT: Adam Cook (all-rounder, Cumnor), Pat Jobson (batsman, retired).

ONE TO WATCH: Nick Ferraby IF NOT YOU, WHO WILL WIN THE LEAGUE? Harrison said: “My tip is Wycombe, they know how to win. Henley have recruited well and could be a threat.”
