AFC Wallingford, after fears that they might have to disband, have pledged to carry on for the coming season.

The south Oxfordshire club, who just over a year ago were playing Hellenic League Premier Division football, were in danger of folding, due to a shortage of committee and players.

This would have left the town without an adult football team for 87 years.

But club secretary Richard May confirmed they will be carrying on in the North Berks League.

“We’re hoping to appoint a manager very shortly and we expect to have enough players,” he said.

“We just managed to survive in Division 1 last season, but the club have been kept going by a small handful of individuals.”
