Midfielder Simon Clist believes there’s much more to come from Oxford United, despite their superb start to the season.

The U’s have amassed 36 points from 15 games and are six clear at the top.

But former Bristol City, Barnet and Forest Green player Clist feels they can do even more.

“There’s always room for improvement,” he said.

“At times on Saturday at Barrow we could have done things a lot better. I think in the second half we overhit passes a few times and didn’t take the wind into account enough.”

United’s players felt frustrated not to have forced the win when they had so dominated the second half. But the 1-1 draw keeps them undefeated in their last three games ahead of Saturday’s home game against Grays.

“There’s always things we can work on and we know now what we have to do,” Clist said.

“But it was an away performance and we didn’t get beat, that was the main thing.

“We’re on another unbeaten run and we want to keep that going. No-one likes losing and we don’t want to lose again.

“Obviously we’re trying to go for wins every week, but when you go to places like Barrow, which are tough, you sometimes have to accept the draw.”

Luke Foster’s headed equaliser from Adam Murray’s free-kick at Holker Street means that 12 different players have found the net for Oxford this season in their opening 15 matches.

“I think Bully’s the only one who hasn’t scored,” laughed Clist, referring to his hard-working midfield partner Dannie Bulman.

“But it’s good to be getting goals from all over.”
